This is how not to prepare for a training run: don't run for 5 days, go on a boozy business trip to the Netherlands, don't drink enough during the day, select a hilly run, carry a rucksack and run at night on poorly lit roads.
The result of all this is 5.84 miles at 8.05 per mile.
Yes, its true, this is not awaful bearing in mind the hills and the rucksack. However, it was supposed to be a 7.30 per mile run but tempo and concentration were destroyed by three sharp hills. No excuses. Must be prepared to try harder and put the foot down after hills have been climbed.
